We have two exciting new employment opportunities in West Essex

West Essex Community Action Network Ltd (WECAN) is a social enterprise formed by three long-standing VCSE infrastructure agencies serving West Essex (CVS Uttlesford, Rainbow Services Harlow and Voluntary Action Epping Forest). We currently deliver a number of complimentary services with the shared aim of reducing loneliness, isolation and health inequality. In support of this work we are now recruiting two 12 month fixed term posts.
Wellbeing Connector (West Essex)
As part of the response to Covid-19 and reducing the impact on health and wellbeing of residents of West Essex, WECAN has been awarded a grant to employ a special health equalities focused post. The postholder will work cross-sector to act as the link between the Integrated Care Partnership across West Essex – the One Health and Care Partnership – and the communities and voluntary sector across the quadrant and will build a sustainable relationship between these in order to better tackle health inequity together. There will be a series of key projects over the course of the 12 months which will enable this.
General Responsibilities
- To act as the link between the One Health and Care Partnership (all members) which is the Integrated Care Partnership for West Essex, communities and the VCSE and to develop strong working relationships between these in order to reduce health inequalities across West Essex.
- To map health inequality against community assets across West Essex and work with cross-sector partners to develop sustainable health equity programmes and fill identified gaps.
- To raise awareness of health and wellbeing as a concept as well as the services available to support it and build access to these services for marginalised and vulnerable communities.
- To involve vulnerable communities and those most at risk of health inequity in the planning and delivery of services working in close partnership with cross-sector partners and in particular the West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group Health Equity Programme Manager.
- To build confidence in health services and raise awareness and accessibility.

Hours: 30 per week with flexible working pattern – some weekend and evening work will be required
Salary: Up to £24,960 for 30 hours per week dependent on experience

Find Your Active Community Connector (West Essex)
Due to Covid-19, physical activity is now positioned as essential to health and wellbeing, Active Essex and Essex County Council are taking the bold step of creating a major new campaign called Find Your Active to ensure physical activity is a top priority for everyone.
The Find Your Active campaign celebrates the fact that everyone can enjoy the huge benefits of being active – it’s just about what is right for you. Find Your Active shines a light on all of the different ways and opportunities to get active around Essex.
The ‘Community Connector’ role will provide the eyes and ears on the ground for Active Essex. Working within local communities and alongside United in Kind Coaches, to map physical activity where it already exists and help facilitate it where it doesn’t. The post is fixed term for 12 months.
General Responsibilties:
- Promote Find Your Active campaign, raising awareness in organisations and communities, working with communities, Active Essex hubs, local networks and existing organisations (including local groups and clubs and community leaders), to enable wide engagement in the campaign.
- Map existing activity and create networks to support the campaign. Create and connect local networks and opportunities to support Find your Active and increase opportunities for individuals to find the activity that suits them.
- Signpost and facilitate local physical activities and opportunities for increased involvement in the campaign and helping individuals and communities to find their active.
- Identify, recruit and mobilise volunteers for Find Your Active, including Ambassadors to support the campaign and increase uptake of activity.
- Provide case studies and monitoring data to the Community Engagement & Services Manager

Essential Requirements – both roles
It will be essential for the postholders to hold a full current driving license and have access to a car. You will need to be able to work flexibly including some unsocial hours. Office location for these roles is Harlow, but your delivery will be across the whole of West Essex.
Candidates will possess drive and enthusiasm, recognise the importance of building sound working relationships and have the ability to work effectively both individually and in partnership with others. You must be adaptable to change, as these roles will evolve over the contract term.
