Sarah, United in Kind coach for Harlow has been finding out more about the work Accuro has been doing to support the local community.
Accuro provides services to people with a disability across West Essex. Accuro work hard to eliminate the social isolation of people with disabilities within their local communities, by enhancing their confidence to cross bridges into a wider world.
In Harlow they run a youth club for ages 11-19, a Holiday Scheme for children ages 8-18 and an Adult friendship scheme. The groups support members to make friends and have fun. They also help those attending to find a sense of belonging and community.
During the pandemic they had to find new ways to support their members and started to look at online solutions for their services. Because of this, they started to run fun zoom sessions for their members to join across all of their services. These included craft sessions, Friendships groups, Parties and Quizzes. They have been very successful and have support many members throughout the pandemic to reduce isolation and loneliness.
Accuro are launching a new life skills programme called stride in Harlow in September. The programme will support people with learning disability aged 19-25 to learn vital skills and support them with the transition into adulthood while having fun and making new friends.
